To set up Sitefinity CMS 9.2 on Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and Microsoft IIS 10 is a very straight forward process.

At this point I’m going to assume you already have Microsoft SQL Server 2016 setup and configured as needed and that you have created a new database that will be the repository for your Sitefinity CMS data.

I’m also going to assume that you have IIS 10 installed and that you have downloaded the latest Sitefinity CMS 9.2.6220 (or closest version) Project Manager.

In the ‘Create New Project Wizard’ choose ‘File System’ and select the folder where you want your project files to be extracted. Give the project a name and click ‘next’.

You have a choice now of using your Sitefinity credentials or a license file to activate the product. If you downloaded the license already from Sitefinity.com then select ‘Use a license file you have downloaded’, click ‘browse’ and select the ‘.lic’ file. Alternatively, enter your Sitefinity.com credentials and click ‘next’.

For the type of installation select licensed, unless you’re a developer in which case you are free to select ‘Free Trial’ which will have all the functionality of a normal installation. The only difference is that with a ‘Free Trial’ installation a message will be rendered occasionally reminding you that you are running a trial version of Sitefinity.

Once this step is complete, Sitefinity CMS Project Manager would have copied the necessary files to your working folder which completes this part of the process.

In Part 2 we’ll get to work on the next steps to setup Sitefinity CMS 9.2 on Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and IIS 10.
