Search Engine Advertising, or Search Engine Marketing

Search engines are among the most commonly used online tools by most web users and because of this companies have a fantastic opportunity to promote their businesses via adverts, like sponsored links, frequently seen at the top of search results or down on the right hand side. Since the cost of the advert is measured on a per-click basis this method of advertising is also very cost effective compared to traditional advertising. Search engines also make their adverts available on content networks where contextual adverts are displayed based on the content of a given page. You may have come across the Google Ads that appears on so many websites these days? These are in fact ads driven by Google’s content network.

Search Engine Optimization

As well as paying for adverts to appear on search engines, the most common form of marketing on the web comes in the form of ‘search engine optimization’. This process involves ensuring that the content on your website is adequately formatted and arranged so that search engines will find and index content on your website that is relevant to searches made on their search engines. The key here is to maintain a good balance between the needs of your readers and the needs of the search engine which can be quite tricky at times, but mostly rewarding when done correctly. You should also be aware that most good search engines can pick up when someone is trying to fool it into thinking the page has a high value and may even end up in your website being band altogether.
