Intended Audience: Communications Managers, public relations officers, marketing personnel and business owners.
E-marketing Synonyms: Online marketing, web marketing, internet marketing, website marketing, search engine marketing, search engine advertising, e-communication.
The question “What types, or forms, of e-marketing exist?” has a two part answer. The first point to be aware of is that of delivery or package, the second is of advert type. Advertising using the internet can be delivered to a number of different devices, the most prominent of which are personal computers and mobile phones.
Of the two most common devices personal computers have a far greater impact on the delivery of marketing and advertising material due to the availability of more commonly used applications as compared to mobile phones. Having said that, the new generation of mobile phones available today and with the steady decrease in cost of cellular bandwidth, the use of mobile phones for purposes other than SMS and regular calls is shifting constantly.
Affiliate Advertising or Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing refers to the practice of paying another company to have your products or services advertised on their website or e-marketing material. There are three main types of affiliate ads: pay-per-click or ppc, pay-per-lead and pay-per-sale. The common thread amongst all three of these affiliate ad types is that they are performance based, which means you only pay when a pre-agreed action is completed by the user, whether that be a simple click-through, the completion of a lead form, or a successful sale.
Auto Responder Marketing
Auto responders are programs that send automated, predesigned e-mails when certain events are triggered, much like Microsoft Outlook will send out an auto response if you have set your status as “Out of Office” and someone sends you an e-mail.
Here the advantage is that you are able to respond to customer input immediately, regardless of the time of day or the availability of human resources. Added to that is the marketing pitch whereby you could add one or two related bits of information, which potentially result in cross-sales.
A common example of auto responder use is that of a multi-part e-mail course. The trigger in this case would be the user signing up for the course by providing their e-mail address, which would be captured into the database and automatically added to the distribution list for that particular e-mail course.
