Podcasting

Podcasting is a newer form of online advertising which makes use of the RSS syndication standards, but instead of delivering textual content it can delivery audio or video files. The advantage of syndication is that readers subscribe only to the content that they wish to receive. This means that the content is highly targeted through self-selection. Where blogging turned everyday bloggers into semi-journalists, podcasting has the potential to turn podcasters into radio personalities.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS)

‘Really simple syndication’ allows the company to publish regular content updates, news highlights, press releases, product highlights and the like to readers who have opted to receive such information via a feed, or tool, that will regularly check for new published information. In this case the information is being pulled from its source as opposed to being pushed as is the case with e-mail. Pulling the information means that the user has full control over the content received, this in turn means that the content is highly targeted.

Rich Media Advertising

From a standard text advert to a full media rich advert involves the use of a different set of technologies like Adobe Flash. The advantage of this approach is the ability to add audio and video into the advert making it more appealing and enabling the advertiser to get the message across using more of the reader’s senses.

Marketing as profession is an enjoyable journey when technologies like Podcasting, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) are implemented. Mastery of Information Technologies become a prerequisite to utilise the offerings of e-marketing, internet marketing, online marketing, website marketing and search engine advertising.
