Mr. VIDEO launches its new website today and the anticipation surrounding the event is palpable. The Mr. VIDEO franchise which focuses its business on home entertainment, specifcally in the movie, TV series and video game rentals business, has grown to some 243 stores in South Africa and Namibia. This makes it the largest business of its kind not only in South Africa but across the entire African continent.
Mr. VIDEO COO, Andre Grobler, discovered that many of us here at Nedoweb are ardent movie enthusiasts saying that he found our ideas to be inline with their wishes for the business going forward and that he was excited to see what we could produce. As such we embarked on stage one of the new website with the aim of replacing the underlying technology upon which their existing website was built, as well as delivering a new face for the site aimed at engaging the visitor on many levels.
Technology wise Mr. VIDEO chose to base the new website on Microsoft's .net Framework 3.5 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Asp.net coupled with the popular Asp.net based Content Management System, DotNetNuke 5.0, delivers the user interface whilst SQL Server 2005 is used as the data store. The top half of the website also incorporates Flash for that all important 'bling' factor so pivotal to a business of this nature.
The next 14 months for the Mr. VIDEO online strategy promises to deliver more engaging features with the aim of really allowing customers to interact on many levels. At this stage we cannot divulge too much, but over time, Mr. VIDEO customers will find plenty more to keep themselves busy with in the movie world. Keep an eye on the site for the launch of the 2010 competitions starting with monthly competitions culminating in a grand prize of epic proportions.
